Day 11: Yala – Mirissa

I’m pleased to say no monkeys were jumping on our tent last night, and no mozzies made it past our screen doors. In fact, it was much quieter than I hoped, I had imagined hearing elephants trumpet and a cacophony of birds keeping me awake all night but it was not to be.

It was simply a travel day today, driving about 4.5 hours southwest to Mirissa with a bakery/grocery/KFC stop for lunch. I’ve included some of the scenes we passed by today, many typical of any day’s drive in Sri Lanka: stupas (this stupa/pagoda happens to be the oldest), loose cattle, tuk tuks, lovely views, and today: a scooter driving lesson!

Our hotel is right on the beach, with a lovely swimming pool to boot. We had the afternoon free but the weather was not conducive to sunbathing so I spent a few restful hours catching up on the internet before concluding the evening with cheese & crackers and room service wine. Room service! What an extreme from yesterday!!
