Day 20: Still At Sea

Another day passes on the MSC Sinfonia. Same routine: walk, eat, read, lecture, walk, eat, read, lecture, you get the idea. Incredibly strong winds in the morning so I only did one lap on the top deck before I got blown overboard and finished my workout walking fore&aft thru all the quiet bars and sitting areas on deck 6 as well as some time on the treadmill.

I finished 2 books! Yea!

The disappointing news is that the strong winds and currents we’ve been encountering have prevented us from making up the 6 hours we lost being late leaving Saudi Arabia. It was a poorly kept secret on board all morning as only those who had MSC excursions booked for the 1st day in the Seychelles were informed (as their trips got canceled), the rest of us just heard the rumors. The captain chose yesterday of all days to wander the decks and a couple of people in my circle questioned him on the lack of transparency. Karen especially nailed him and told him there’d be a riot at reception if he waited until the day before arrival as people needed time to change their plans. Lo and be hold, at dinner an announcement was made we wouldn’t arrive in the Seychelles until 4pm Saturday.

Mentioned dinner, here’s a pic of our friendly waitteam. They’re super and never bat an eye at some of the requests my tablemates make

I have a rental car booked for 2 days so I’ll miss one day. I’ve emailed the company hoping they’ll honor the 1-day rental, I’m happy to pay for 2 days if necessary. I’m not too bummed as Mahé, the island we’re going to, is relatively small so driving it in a day shouldn’t be a problem.

Getting close to the equator! Seychelles is the lighter smudge below the line.
