Day 35: Transfer Day

5a, heading west to Cape Town

A long day of ….sitting. I awoke at my usual 5a and sprung out of bed as Cape Town was almost outside my balcony and I had to get ready! No time for exercise today – I had to vacate my room by 7am so 2 trips to the buffet (one for morning coffee, one to bring back breakfast) and snapping photos of the scenery ate up my time.

Still heading west…

I booked an airport transfer as I’ve such a big, unwieldy suitcase (I did not pack light this trip) and that didn’t leave till 7:45a so I had to sit around and wait for that.

A lot of confusion finding the right bus but once we filled it it was just 30 minutes to the airport. I had grand hopes of checking my bag in early for my flight and returning to Cape Town for a little sightseeing but I couldn’t check in till 12:30, 4 hours distant, so I had no choice but to sit around the airport.

For a total of 6 hours(!) as my flight was at 2:45p! Lots of sitting, and reading, and sitting. I flew to Johannesburg, 2 hours north, and landed absolutely exhausted. I had no opportunity to nap today which I have been recently recovering from my cold. It was all I could do to find my airport hotel which is conveniently attached to a distant car park. The passage is abundantly signed, all indoors, and I could wheel my luggage cart the whole way.

I’m very impressed with the hotel. A gorgeous lobby, inexpensive buffet (food puts MSC to shame), and reasonably priced. Lucky too, as I’m booked here for another night next week.

Tomorrow: back to the airport at 6a for my flight to St. Helena. I will be there 7days, returning the following Saturday and will NOT have internet so am temporarily signing off…. Back on the 24th!
