Day 5: Isle of Wight

This is the 2nd rainy day of my stay so I had another slow start. Once the shops opened at 10a I went for a walk around Newport, which I’d yet to do. It didn’t really take long….many stores were closed because of the bank holiday and the few that were open held little interest.

Home for a hot lunch and some telly then out again at 12:30p for a walk. Originally I was going to take the bus to Cowes but I decided to save the £2 and walk the 5 miles 🙂 Drizzling to start but it dried up soon enough. There’s an excellent cycle path on a converted rail line that parallels the River Medina all the way to Cowes.

Cowes looked like it’d be a fun place to visit on a busy summer’s evening – there’s lots of pubs and cafes and excellent shopping. It’s the yachting capital of the IOW and even on a gray day like today there were many sailboats out on the Solent.

Not a sailboat but this was the ferry I took on the way over from Southampton

I did take the bus back to Newport. I arrived in time for afternoon tea and more British telly!
