SWCP Day 2: Swanage > Kingston

It was a big day today, mostly because my 12-lb pack morphed into a 17-lb beast once I added my lunch and water. Also, tweaking my bad ankle by stepping down into a furrow made the day a bit more challenging too!

Luckily it was a fantastically brilliant day with the warm sun at our backs and the slightest breath of wind pushing us forward. It was a full day of coastal walking, passing a late 19th C castle, multiple limestone quarries built right into the cliff’s edge, many path walkers, and a couple hunting rare flowers – specifically the Early Spider Orchid which they were kind enough to point out to us.

We ended with the most discouraging sight of an impossibly steep valley with 100’s of steps down, then immediately 100’s more back up. Slow going for Gimpy here but in truth it wasn’t too bad.

We left the Path at Chapman’s Pool shortly after and trudged a further 1.8 miles on a paved track up to our hotel in Kingston, this being the closest accommodation that worked for my itinerary. Luckily there’s an in-house restaurant else it’d be a 1/2 miles walk back to the local pub! [sorry for the crap photos today, I had wonderful views of the sea all day but never took any pictures!]
