I was up early this morning but had to wait 2 hours (!) for breakfast and my packed lunch. There’s no services along the Path today and nothing open early in the village so I was captive to the clock.
It was a good day: decent mileage, lots of ascent, and only got rained on once! I chatted to a couple of Path walkers: a girl who blew by me at the start (she’s camping), 3 gents who were a bit directionally challenged, and a father who was squeezing in 2 days on trail while mom took care of the toddlers.

Most of the day was in the woods, with glimpses of the sea thru the leafless trees. The last couple of miles were clinging to the exposed hillside with a precipitous drop to the sea below. Eventually I dropped into Lynmouth which was a delightful tourist town. Instead of the punishingly steep walk up to the twin town of Lynton high on the cliff above, I opted for the Cliff Railway, the highest and the steepest totally water powered funicular in the world!
