SWCP Day 9: Lynton > Heddon’s Mouth

Nice “Victorian Path” to start

The SWCP guide suggested going from Lynton to Combe Martin in one day (14m, 3800’) but as this was originally to be only my 3rd day on trail I had decided to break it into 2 stages so I’m booked into the National Trust property, The Hunters Inn, approximately 1/2 way.

A good thing it was a short day as the weather was bad. The forecast suggested better conditions if I waited till noon but I was bored by 10am and had to check out of my hotel anyway so off I went. It was overcast but dry till Lee Bay (2m), then light rain all thru the woods (2m), then steady rain the last 2.5m to Heddon’s Mouth. Of course it eased right off as soon as I arrived at 1:15pm but if I’d waited I wouldn’t have had a chance to try out my waterproof socks, would I? 🙂

Valley of The Rocks
Looking back…..
The Path was a stream. Glad the 22mph winds never appeared
Finally Heddon’s Mouth = narrow valley to a beach. Tomorrow’s trail is cut high on the cliff, while there’s people far below on the paved path to the beach
The Hunters Inn
I’ll be cozy here!
