SWCP Day 11: Combe Martin > Ilfracombe

Woolacombe, the next stage’s end, is a black hole for accommodation and there’s no buses today on Easter Sunday so I’m have a “nero” day of just 6 miles to Ilfracombe.

It was a gorgeous day for meandering: bright sun, brisk wind, good views, little bays, wildflowers. Lots of walkers out to chat with and friendly dogs to pat.

Yellow violets, bluebells, whitebells, buttercups, daisies, etc, etc and these wild garlic (yes, you can smell it as you walk by)
Tourists on what must be a very wet/cold sightseeing ride
Lovely chat with this dapper gentleman

Close up of the harbor entrance with Damian Hirst’s statue of Verity and the c.1320 St. Nicholas chapel/lighthouse on hill above

Lots of tourists wandering the inner harbour at Ilfracombe. I went out to see Verity, climbed up to the church/lighthouse behind, stood in line for my fish & chips, and window-shopped my way to my BnB.

I took myself out for a nice Easter dinner at a nearby hotel. It turned out to be similar to a Fawlty Towers for Pensioners, lol. The food, however, was very good and I came back to have a Cadbury Easter Crème Egg for dessert.
