SWCP Day 21: Crackington Haven > Bude

Chatted at breakfast with another walker who did the “Arduous Stage” in one go yesterday and said he was shattered, thinking of not walking today at all. Two other ladies did the same but they’re still upstairs in bed because they didn’t get in last night until 7:45pm! I’m so glad I took a more relaxed approach.

Today I’m walking backwards; I booked 2 nights here in Bude so I’m taking the 9:30a bus this morning to Crackington Haven and then walking the Path back.

The long bay of Crackington Haven had me climbing diagonally up the headland
And right into 2 more deep and steep valleys
Usually there’s gates to pass thru but today were several step-overs
Well-graded switchbacks made this an easy climb
I hate these blind descents! Feels like you’re going off into infinity. Very much vertigo inducing
And this is what was beneath
The going got easier but all the ascents of the last 48 hours have caused the shin splints that I’m prone to to act up 😦
Paid me absolutely no mind
That’s Widemouth Bay in the upper left quarter. My shin was getting worse so I checked bus times and I was exactly on time to catch one the 3 miles back to Bude. I stopped for some bandages and frozen peas and will rest it for the remainder of the day.
