SWCP Day 24: Port Isaac

Today was my Doc Martin Day! I slept in the Old Schoolhouse, watched Doc Martin on television, did a Doc Martin walking tour, and ate at Bert Large’s pub!

Early morning view from outside my room of Port Isaac/Port Wenn
the doc’s house
Mrs. Tishell’s pharmacy is really a sweets shop
Ruth’s house on left, other homes were rented out for the cast during filming. Almost all of lower town is holiday lets, less than 30 full-timers. They all cashed in and moved to upper Port Isaac.
The guide telling us about Squeeze Belly Alley. 15” taken from house behind him to create alley to new church. Smugglers (lean and hungry) also used to escape chasing (plump and well-fed) Customs Men.
Bert Large’s restaurant, harbor, the Old Schoolhouse above far Cliff
Across the harbor is the Golden Lion pub, aka Al & Bert’s pub (after the restaurant failed)
The doc’s house/surgery, also a holiday let. Any property associated with Doc Martin, even shown in just a few episodes, can command 1000’s of £ a week!

And that was my relaxing Saturday. Tomorrow I’m off to Padstow.
