SWCP Day 30: Portreath > Hayle

Had a bit of business to care of early this morning. I think the apartment I rented for the next 3 nights is a scam so had to deal with Booking.com to find a replacement. Also, because I no longer had a room reserved I couldn’t book my luggage transfer. Thankfully after 2 hours both were resolved and I could go on my way.

An energizing climb then 2 valleys in quick succession, all within two miles. Then it was a flat gravel path for miles and miles after.

Leaving Portreath
Flower of the Day: buttercups!
Hell’s Mouth
Stunning coastline, with flat-topped cliffs!
A road paralleled the Path, with lots of parking lots, and therefore lots of walkers, dogs, birders, and joggers
Godrevy Point and Lighthouse

At 7.5 miles I left the cliffs and, after a restorative lunch at a surf cafe, hit the beach to once again walk the sand instead of trudging o’er the dunes.

Godrevy Beach, The Towans, and Hayle Beach. I had to walk almost to the very far end
I walked past that point literally seconds before the tide came in to close off the beach. Everyone after me would be getting wet feet!

At 10.75 miles I left the beach, and walked around a point and into the town of Hayle to catch the bus to my new accommodation in St. Ives. It’s huge, rather dated and not necessarily clean but has a stunning view!
