SWCP Day 33: St. Ives > Zennor

This is my halfway day!! I planned my journey to take 66 days and now I’m midway through that itinerary.

Thanks to the wonderful people on a Facebook SWCP group I follow I learned of an easier inland route between St. Ives and Zennor called the Coffin Way. This is a name used widely, referring to routes used connecting hamlets and villages to those with churchyards. They needed a fairly level path for carrying or carting a coffin from afar to be buried in holy ground. So prudence prevailed and instead of the “severe” bouldery Coastal Path I went inland and apart from a few whinges and a bloody shin(!) it was a great walk.

Started off walking around the far point of St Ives. This is looking back at the town
City walking for a mile or two, then thick hedgerows, then these open fields
Old granite stones for stiles
Daisies!
A few spooky bits with abandoned houses
I passed hamlets, went around houses, and here actually through a farmstead
They put a lot of effort into their walls in the old days. The gaps are so livestock can’t pass thru
Zennor’s Church of St Senara, from 1150
Cool twin barreled roofs, and this font dates from 13-14th C. They even had a list of all the vicars from 1271 – present day!

I’m staying at a BnB attached to the Tinners Arms pub and I just wanted to say they have a full kitchen, dining room and washer/dryer for guests. Since I had to walk thru a bog that came up to my ankles this will come in handy!
