SWCP Day 37: Penzance

Yesterday, by walking those couple of miles into Mousehole, I completed almost all of the off-road portion of the next stage. Since pavement seems to exacerbate my knee pain I’m going to avoid it as much as possible = a day off today.

I have accommodation booked for last night and tonight in Penzance, right in the middle of the stage. The name “Penzance” had brought to mind pirates, and timber-framed houses, cute shops and artsy galleries. But you know what they say about assuming…..

It’s not a bad town but there’s many empty storefronts, lots of charity shops, the ubiquitous pasty shops, scaffolding. I wandered, ate, and caught up on my British TV!

Main Street
The old Market Hall
Admiral Benbow Inn, circa 1695. Not sure who the guy on top is aiming at….
Anchor from the 1707 shipwreck of the HMS Association
The famous art deco Jubilee Pool, UK’s largest saltwater pool. I stole this pic from the internet as mine turned out grey and pretty dismal looking
