SWCP Day 46: Megavissey > Fowey

I had to schedule a long hard day based on my accommodation choices for the next couple of days. Because a 17-18 mile day is beyond my present capabilities I’m going to chop off 4 miles of flatter, industrial walking in the middle by taking a bus. To accomplish all this I left at 6:50am; needless to say I was the only one on trail!

I see lots of stairs and hills in my future!
Obviously the Coast Path is by the sea but we really spent more time walking behind hedgerows. Having a great view is a treat
Love the brilliant green grass and how it moves in the wind
Flower of the Day: Dr Seuss-like Echiums on the way into Charlestown

I stopped for a brunch of a pasty and coffee in Charlestown at 7.75 miles. Even though I checked multiple times, and on multiple websites the bus I needed to Polmear wasn’t running on Sundays. This meant a bus in St. Austell, an hours wait, then a bus east. Bright side is I got to see more of Cornwall!

Wonderful rhododendron trees at park across from bus station in St Austell

By 1pm I was back on the Path on the far side of Par. The first mile was a bit of a struggle for me but an ice lolly at Polkerris gave me a pick me up. The wind was ferocious at the beach so had my Magnum (aka Dove Bar) with a side of sand. Then immediately up into the woods which tempered the blast.

Hand on to your hats! A squall’s on its way

The weather was very fickle today; I must’ve put my rain gear on/off 4x. Each time it was just a misting so #5 I didn’t, and it rained, but not long 🤷‍♀️

Looking back at Gibbon Head, which was the halfway point of the afternoon’s walk. It was raining when I passed by the lighthouse, then sunny again by the time I made it down that steep field
Polruan across the River Fowey. I’ll need to take a ferry over there in the morning
I missed the middle bit from ~812 miles
