A “lite” day today as our only activity was to move locations up to Nam Kat. There was an optional sunrise hike at 5:30am but the only person who was interested besides me dropped out so we cancelled it. To be fair, it’s still cold and dark at that time of morning and with the heavy mist lingering till 10-11am there wouldn’t have been any view. So a leisurely lie in today with my little portable heater keeping my bungalow warm & snug.

The drive was 4 hours long, 3 hours of which on a crazy serpentine National Road that climbed up, along the ridge line, then down into the valley below. After an hour of queasiness the Canadians were passing out the Gravol.

We had lunch at a local restaurant in the town closest to our resort, then had a wander around the local food market, before heading to our accommodation.

The resort, Nam Kat Yorla Pa, is in a protected forestry area along the Nam Kat river, and it is magnificent. Every bungalow is a 3-room suite nestled in a bamboo forest and perched just above a cascading creek. Luckily we’ve 2 nights here so I can enjoy all the facilities!

We had the afternoon free to enjoy ourselves before meeting at 6:15pm so I took off to do a couple of laps of the 1-mile bicycle loop. Absolutely lovely = so lush, so peaceful, and a perfect temperature. There’s terrible flooding in Southern Thailand and other SE Asian countries but we’ve been blessed with great weather here in the north.

it’s chilly at night!
