SE Asia Day 28: Hoi An

A late start on the tour today as it’s a “Me Day”, the only scheduled event is a noodle-making lesson. I took advantage of the extra time to have an early morning walk down to the Old Town. Pretty much everything was closed up still at 7:30am and it wasn’t an especially attractive walk but it felt good to move a bit.

We walked over to Oodles of Noodles at 10am for our lesson. It’s another non-profit that G Adventures supports to train disadvantaged kids (street kids, orphans, impoverished) in culinary arts and the hospitality industry by running a restaurant and culinary class.

Our rice noodles start as steamed “crepes” then put through a cutting machine

Tannisha showing good form
The professionals made our lunch; we ate our noodle crepes smashed inside a crispy rice wafer like a taco with a mix of sauces as an appetizer
The afternoon was free so I wandered the old town taking photos rather than shopping. This is an example of the electric shuttles
seen all over town = classy!
Traditional homes turned into cafes
And tailoring shops EVERYWHERE
Local market at the edge of town selling food and cheap trinkets
A few temples dotted around – huge Chinese influence

I got some takeout from the restaurant across the street (amazing!) and spent the night catching up on some travel planning webinars. Early start tomorrow!
