SE Asia Day 36: Siem Reap

A long day in the bus to travel to Siem Reap. Google estimated 5.5 hours and Happy Jack ~8h with stops. 😩 Fortunately we had a massive upgrade in our transportation- instead of a cramped mini bus we have a full-sized 45 seater with tons of legroom and decorated in pleasing shades of mauve 😆.

A couple hours in we stopped for a coffee break and Happy Jack introduced us to some local delicacies….

Deep-fried tarantulas, crickets, silk worms, and grasshoppers
Chris ate the whole tarantula all in one bite (🤢) while Cam ate his piece by piece. He liked the worms so much he bought more to take with!

The bus’s dirty and rain-streaked green-tinted windows prevented me from taking many photos which was disappointing as the countryside was interesting: small houses on stilts, roadside stalls, rice fields, every imaginable kind of scooter turned into truck/tram/delivery van/transport…

There’s a tiny scooter pulling this load!

Once we arrived in Siem Reap we chilled for an hour until twilight and Happy Jack gave us an orientation walk around town. Then dinner, shopping, BED! We’ve to be on the road at 4:45am tomorrow!

Some vestiges of French Colonial
architecture remain
Lots of street food stalls lining the riverfront
Pub Street – impossible to go thirsty or hungry here!
