SE Asia Day 39: Bangkok

A free morning today before we had to leave at 1pm for the airport for our flight back to Bangkok. Happy Jack had offered a cycle tour to those interested which turned out to be only me so I had a private tour! I requested going back to the Angkor complex as being in the trees and nature was so lovely yesterday. I’m not sure how far we rode but we were gone a solid 2.75 hours and we didn’t dawdle.

It’s just a couple miles to the park
Back at the east entrance to AW which I didn’t see in the predawn darkness 2 days ago
Happy Jack decided to go off road on a track around the outer moat of the larger complex. He had to ask an itinerant farmer for directions!
Pretty rough track including lots of sneaky narrow sandy bits. It’s been a long time since I did any trail riding and I did have to use my feet a couple of times for balance!
A fairly gentle section. There were bits we were ducking low branches and being whisked on both sides by thorny bushes
Made it around to the quiet west gate
Another view of yesterday’s Angkor Thom
This moat is 1.3km x 1.6km so we rode some miles!
A nice smooth paved bike path through the woods on our way back to town

It was a great morning and I was so glad to be moving! 4 weeks of sitting on a bus was getting very old. I had 20 minutes once back at the hotel to shower and finish packing before check-out. An hour later we piled into the bus for the ride to the airport and 6.5 hours later (we checked in really early) we landed in Bangkok.

There is a farewell dinner planned tonight but as we didn’t get to our hotel until past 8:30pm I went right to bed. I’m up before dawn tomorrow to head back to the airport for my flights home!!
