SWCP Day 26: Padstow – Newquay

Today’s a Bank holiday for V-E Day so the streets were pretty quiet when I left at 10a with just a few shops open. Luckily Chough Bakery was so I got my cocktail (= small) traditional pasty to eat later. I quite liked Padstow, it’s a bit more upmarket than other seaside towns like Westward Ho! and there are plenty of boutiques and galleries left for me to discover. I look forward to visiting again when I return to walk this section.

Bakery, pasty shop or pasty shop?

Another picture perfect morning! The 80 minute bus ride was a combination of inland farms & fields & villages and small beach communities. The poor driver did a magnificent job steering his double-decker bus on the narrow country lanes with some sharp corners even requiring 3-point turns. Just one fender bender when a SUV pulling a camper brushed into the bus’ side mirror. The poor vacationer was obviously not quite as skilled driving a wide load.

My BnB in Newquay is conveniently close to the amenities but not necessarily in a scenic part of town. The amenities they offer are superb however: a guest lounge with honesty bar and snacks, dishes and microwave if you bring food back, and the rooms have little fridges. Perfect for a recovering hiker!

My plan is to take a full week off as that’s what Dr Google suggests as a minimum rest period for shin splints. Therefore I’ll start walking again Wednesday and my itinerary shows it will be just 3.5 days until the next rest day so that sounds very sensible. I’ll also book to have my luggage transported those days too as extra insurance. I’m looking forward to getting moving again!
