Montenegro/Albania: Day 6

Žabljak > Kolašin

A very chilly start this morning – in the 30’s. I hadn’t expected such temperatures but with 5 thin layers I should be okay.

We stopped at Black Lake, just near our hotel. This is a mountain stream-fed lake but now that it’s summer it’s actually dried up into two separate lakes. We had 1.5 hours free to walk around the lake. Our guide suggested just going around the larger one but I was sure I could do both in the allotted time and managed, at a trot, to finish in about 50 minutes. With time on my hands I found another trail to do a short out&back to up the mileage. ~4.2miles

Leaving the area we stopped at a bakery to pick up some picnic supplies then had a 2 hour drive to our next lake.

Made a pit stop to see a new bridge being built by the Chinese over the Tara River canyon, apparently one of largest/deepest gorges in Europe. ~1300m deep

After a scenic drive we reached our 2nd outdoor destination: Biogradska Gora National Park. Here we had time to have our picnic and enjoy another walk around a lake. Unfortunately it’s the end of season and probably 75-80% of the lake has evaporated and it also started to rain 5 minutes after arriving but I enjoyed the 2 mile walk anyway.

The longest boardwalk ever, 1/4-1/3 mile
Even passed through a swamp with primeval 4’ high plants

And after just a short drive we got to our hotel, arriving at a very chill 4pm so we had a relaxing afternoon before meeting for our group dinner.

More rain this afternoon but we’ve all got massive rooms with lounges and a welcoming bar downstairs so we’re happy
