Montenegro/Albania: Day 10

Shkodër > Tirana

On the road again! A 2 hour drive after breakfast brought us to Kruje.

Lower Kruje – several bakeries and bars named after Bush as he was the 1st US President to visit Albania (2007)
Krujë sits at the base of the coastal mountains
In 1405 Skanderbeg defended Krujë from the Ottomans for 25 years. He’s still considered the great hero of the country
Old section of town
Fun street of souvenirs
New museum above the fortress walls
Ruins of old Mosque built after Turks finally captured Krujë (1478-1490)
View from the fortress walls
Everything and anything for sale

We had a nice farewell lunch in Krujë before hitting the highway for Tirana, the capital of Albania.

I think a hotel? (Correction: abandoned casino)

Our tour ended upon arrival at the hotel. Jelena saw us settled with our rooms, said goodbye to those who are stopping here, and the rest of us had 2 hours free before meeting our new tour guide and 5 new tour mates for the next week here in Albania.

We don’t spend any time sightseeing Tirana, not sure why, but I will have 2 days here on my own after the tour ends so I just did a 30 minute zip around Skanderbeg Square this afternoon.

Some pretty funky architecture
